Thailand’s ICT Readiness Has Moved Up to 3rd Rank in ASEAN Following Singapore and Malaysia As Number of Mobile Broadband Service Per 100 Persons Climbed Up to 42nd Rank on Global List

Mr. Takorn Tantasith, Secretary-General of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC Secretary-General), revealed the results of “The Global Information Technology Report 2015” announced by World Economic Forum (WEF) and INSEAD that the overall indicators measured at the end of April 2015 has indicated positive improvement in Thailand in nearly every aspect, allowing it to climb up to 67^th rank from a total of 143 countries and the 3^rd rank in the ASEAN Region following Singapore and Malaysia. Key indicators used included the allocation of telecommunication resources such as spectrum and number, the promotion of service coverage, service rates and competition regulation to avoid any impact on the rights and service usage. The number of mobile broadband service per 100 persons has improved, allowing the country to move up from 132^nd rank in 2014 to 42^nd rank in 2015, which corresponds to the number of mobile service users per 100 persons by which Thailand has moved up to 35^th rank this year from 38^th rank in 2014. According to the report on mobile telephone network deployment, nationwide coverage can be observed. In addition, positive improvement in terms of prepaid mobile service can likely be expected by moving up from 30^th rank in 2014 to 16^th rank in 2016. In other words, the overall population has higher purchase power due to the recent issuance of licenses to operate on IMT frequency 2.1 GHz band and international mobile business, or also known as 3G/4G service.
