ITU Ranked Thailand as 57th Country on Global ICT Development List from a Total of 74 Countries

Mr. Takorn Tantasith, Secretary of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC Secretary), attended "The ITU Telecommunication/ICT Indicators Symposium" at Hiroshima, Japan from November 30 – December 2, 2015. At the event, the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) revealed the results of Global Telecommunication/ICT Indicators of each country. According to the data, Thailand has moved up to 74th rank in 2014 from 81st rank in 2013 thanks to the launching of 3G service on 2.1 GHz band in 2013.

Mr. Takorn also added that Thailand was an interesting case and has therefore remained as a case study for ITU throughout the past years.

"From the last 1800 MHz and 900 MHz band auction for 4G service, we can be sure that Thailand’s ICT development will likely move to higher ranks in the future,” confirmed Mr. Takorn.

Meanwhile, based on the 1800 MHz band auction that has just recently ended on November 12, 2015, the launching of 4G service on 1800 MHz band can be expected before January 2016 whereas 900 MHz band auction is scheduled to take place this upcoming December 15, 2015.
